Il Ciliego at Santa Croce

Originally, an old run-down and forgotten farmhouse, partly dating back to the 14th century, Santa Croce has been restored with great enthusiasm, love and care. It lies close to the Tuscan and Umbrian border, between the Niccone valley and the market town of Umbertide. The property has an excellent position and lies midway up the hillside with views over the valley in unspoiled countryside. It has good and easy access.

 

The interiors are light, sunny and welcoming. The property is surrounded by olive groves and young cherry and walnut plantations and, during the months of May and June, the fields and hedgerows are filled with wild flowers. The swimming pool is set apart from the house and there are umbrellas and sun loungers provided. The large ground floor apartment - Il Noce - with easy access, has been specifically restored with the disabled visitor in mind giving them also the opportunity to enjoy the Umbrian countryside. The entire property also makes a perfect location for family reunions and small groups of friends. The farmhouse is looked after by a resident, English speaking, couple who are always on hand to help.

 

Il Cipresso (2 bedrooms, sleeps 3 + 1)

This small independent cottage is set apart from the main farmhouse. A good spot for the honeymooner! There is a charming terrace at the back of the house flanked, on one side, by olive and walnut trees and is completely private.

The accommodation comprises a sitting room with an open fireplace and is furnished with a wicker sofa and matching armchairs. There is a dining table for six.

The kitchen area is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, four-ring gas cooking hob, electric oven and granite worktops.

Leading from the sitting room are the two bedrooms, one with double bed, the other with two single (‘trundle' - one closing under the other) beds. The bathroom has shower, bidet and hairdryer.

L'Olivo (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4)

This is an Apartment for four. A traditional external staircase leads to a covered loggia, furnished with table and chairs for relaxed hours. From here one enters the large lounge with sofa and cosy chairs, an open fireplace and a dining table to seat six. There is a lovely view across the hills from the window above the fully equipped kitchen corner. The apartment offers two large bedrooms, also with stunning views, one with a double, the other with twin beds. There is a modern little bathroom with shower and hairdryer. Apart from the loggia, a private patio in the garden is part of this unit.

Il Noce (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4)

A wide brick walkway/ramp leads to the front door of this large apartment. It is light and spacious. The front door leads into a small entrance hall. The separate kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, electric oven, four-ring gas hob, dishwasher and granite worktops. The living area is furnished with sofa and armchairs and there is a dining table and chairs to seat six. Two bedrooms, one with double bed, one with twin beds. Large bathroom with WC, walk/sit-in shower and hairdryer. Two terraces. This apartment has been specifically designed for disabled visitors and is fully wheelchair accessible. Assistance may be needed on the ramp leading to the front door.

Il Ciliegio (3 bedrooms, sleeps 6)

This house is the largest unit Santa Croce can offer. There is plenty of room for up to six guests. What used to be a tobacco drying tower and stable has now been converted into a spacious comfortable house of true Umbrian style, featuring oak beams, traditional brick ceilings and old terracotta floors.

Large living room with fire place, sofas and easy chairs, separate gourmet kitchen, dining room with wood burning stove and table seating up to twelve, a built-in loggia, large terrace, two double and one twin bedroom, two bathrooms with bathtub or shower, bidet and hairdryer.
